Darrell Reeder

Darrell W. Reeder, 81, a former long-time Janesville/Footville area resident passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Tomah, WI Veterans Administration Hospital. Darrell was born in Janesville on October 14, 1931, the son of Harry and Vivian {Davidson} Reeder.  He grew up in La Prairie Township on the family farm and graduated from Janesville High School in 1949. He served in the U. S. Army from February 27, 1951 to February 26, 1953. On October 2, 1954, Darrell was united in marriage to Bernita M. Barlass at the Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church. He farmed in the La Prairie Township area and later near Stoughton, WI.  Darrell also worked  various factory jobs  while farming until he became disabled. In 1961, the family moved to Footville where Bernita operated Bea’s Beauty Salon for many years.  Following her retirement they moved to Janesville in 1995 and due to his failing health, he had been a resident of the Tomah Veterans Home for the past few years. Bernita preceded him in death on March 3, 2011. Darrell was a 58 year member of Footville American Legion Post # 237.
Surviving are one son, Douglas (Pat) Reeder of Machesney Park, IL, one daughter, Becky (Joe) Heinzl of Oshkosh, WI, one granddaughter, Melissa (Patrick) Schad of Manitowoc, WI, two great-grandchildren, Raymond Schad and Meta Schad both of Manitowoc, WI, one sister, Mina (Jim) Walsh of Beloit, a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law George (Shirley) Barlass and Alice Barlass all of Janesville. In addition to his wife and parents, Darrell was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Reeder, three sisters, Lois Marx, Grace Marie Lentz and Dorothy Feirn, sister-in-law, Myrtle Reeder and brothers-in-law, Marvin Barlass, Clem Marx, Thomas Lentz and Wallace Feirn.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Milton Lawns Memorial Park Chapel with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Rev. Lee A. Meissner will officiate. Military rites will be by Footville American Legion Post # 237. Entombment will be in Milton Lawns Mausoleum. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
